Oaks Literary Festival to kick off with a celebration of author Harper Lee

With the recent release of Harper Lee’s novel “Go Set a Watchman,” the Oaks Literary Festival will kick off its inaugural season with “A Literary Celebration of Harper Lee” at 1 p.m. Sun., July 19 at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks.

Lee’s second published work comes out nearly 55 years after her first novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

The free event will have a literary panel discussion with authors Kerry Madden, Natashia Deón and David Rocklin. Los Angeles author David Kukoff will chair the panel.

Lee’s first book, a fictional memoir, discusses life in the Depression-era South, race relations and the power of familial bonds. The panel will discuss the presence of these themes in her second published work and the continuing relevance of her writing today.
